SUMMARY REPORT: Consumer Testing of Dura-bag Briefcase LineA team from the marketing department, led by Brian An, conducted consumer research on Dura-bag’s new line of women's briefcases. Available in gray, black, and brown, the bags have been updated to carry everything the modern businesswoman needs. 一 [1]—. Feedback on the products was gathered through two methods, as explained below:FOCUS GROUPS: The marketing team surveyed six focus groups, each containing 12 participants. All participants were female businesspeople between 30 and 50 years of age, the target market for this particular line. Groups were led through a variety of activities and asked a number of questions. 一 [2] —. Although the majority (88 percent) were impressed with the products' contemporary designs, many (56 percent) criticized the size of the briefcases, saying they were too bulky. Several participants voiced concerns that airlines would consider them to be "carry-on luggage" rather than a personal item. Some also suggested that a wider selection of colors might be a good idea. — [3]—.PRODUCT TESTERS: The team also asked 24 focus-group participants to use the briefcases for a period of two weeks and report back their findings. All participants said they were very pleased with the functionality of the products and that they were easy to open and close. In addition, 80 percent of them said they will continue using the briefcases. — [4] 一. However, 8 of the participants indicated that some airlines have verified that the cases are too large to be considered personal items.Based on the findings, the team recommends that the size of the bags be reduced. We estimate that the reduction would only need to be by 10 percent, so the modifications shouldn’t significantly impact production. Also, we had previously discussed manufacturing a larger selection of colors.
