Eurozone jobless rate remains at 10.0% in May
BRUSSELS, July 2 -- The jobless rate of the eurozone remained at 10.0 percent in May, unchanged compared with the previous two months, the European Union's (EU) statistical bureau Eurostat said on Friday.
For the 27-member EU, the jobless rate stood at 9.6 percent in May, stable since February.
However, the unemployment rate for people under 25 in the eurozone increased from 19.4 percent in April to 19.9 percent in May, while that in the EU increased from 19.5 percent to 20.5 percent.
Eurostat estimated that the total number of people out of job in May in the EU was 23.127 million, of whom 15.789 million were in the eurozone.
Among the member states, the lowest jobless rate was recorded in Austria and the Netherlands, which was 4.0 percent and 4.3 percent respectively. The highest rate was seen in Latvia, which was 20.0 percent in the first quarter of 2010.
