Suspension systems may be grouped into two broad categories:independent and non-independent.
Independent suspension allows one wheel to move up and down with minimal effect onthe other wheels. Since each wheel in an independent suspension system is attached to itsown suspension unit, movement of one wheel does not cause direct movement of the wheelon the other side of the vehicle. Independent suspension system is widely used on modernvehicles, especially passenger cars.
Non-independent suspension has both the right and left wheels attached to the samesolid axle. When one tire hits a bump in the road, its upward movement causes a slightupward tilt of the other wheel. Hence, neither wheel is independent of the other.
