Admittedly, our national economy prospers in recent decades. It is also true, however, that economic prosperity is gained at the enormous cost of the environment. According to the findings of a study conducted this year, China may need to spend as much as 7.5% of her gross domestic product (GDP) on environmental protection by 2030. Therefore, we are now confronted with a dilemma--how to strike a balance between economy promotion and environmental protection?

As I see it, in the first place, policy-makers should do their utmost not only to raise environmental consciousness nationwide, but also to curb those damage to the nature. In the second place, it is high time that people took advantage of environmentally friendly technology,

which is characterized by low energy consumption and less pollution. As long as we take effective measures, irreversible consequences can be avoided and a better life of the future generations will be ensured.
