Teaching procedure
Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
Present some places of interest in China on the screen. Then ask them if they have been to these places.
Step 2: Pre-writing
1. Free talk something about hometown or a place.
2. Group work.
Four students in a group. Then time for discussion. Make a list of facts about their hometown or a place they have been to, according to the following aspects: size and location, population, weather, history, places to visit, things to eat. Then ask the representatives to display their notes.
T: Which place do you want to introduce to us?
S: I want to introduce my hometown, Huainan.[page]
T: What is the size of this city?
S: It is 2596 square kilometers.
And the other students should take some notes on the useful expressions.
Step 3: While-writing
1. Drafting: Give students 15 minutes to writes a draft about "your hometown or a place you have been to" according to the notes.
2. Peer-editing: After the drafting, ask students to check their article with desk mates. They should read the writing and check the ideas or the logical development. Also, check carefully the grammar, spelling and punctuation of their writing.
Step 4: Post-writing
Ask several students to read their passages and then give some evaluations from the advantages and disadvantages. Then ask students to revise their own articles.
Step 5: Summary and Homework
Summary:
Ask students to act as an assistant teacher to conclude what we have learned this class. And then make a summary.
Homework:
Continue revising the writing according to evaluations and hand in the next class.
